Nirmal: A youngster was arrested for allegedly vandalising an idol of Lord Shiva at a crematorium in Bhainsa, on Wednesday.

Bhainsa Inspector M Praveen Kumar said that the accused was identified as Sharuq, a tractor driver of Gopal Nagar in Bhainsa town. Praveen said that Sharuq confessed to committing the crime in an inebriated state on Monday at the crematorium located at Gopal Nagar at around 11.30 pm. Sharuq admitted that he shared the incident with some of his friends and locals, triggering tension in the



area. A case was booked against the tractor driver under the Sections 297, 504 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations were taken up.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, mild tension prevailed for a while when members of Hindu religion and locals staged a protest demanding action against the perpetrators of sacrilege. They withdrew the agitation when In-charge Superintendent of Police Ch Praveen Kumar and Bhainsa ASP Kiran Khare assured them of arresting the offenders and stringent action against them.
