Trade unions call for bandh

Trade unions in the State have called for one-day bandh on Tuesday as part of the nation-wide bandh call given by the Central Trade Unions against the anti-workers policies of the Central government. The transport unions, including the TSRTC workers, Autos Drivers Associations, Trolley Association have also decided to take part in protests. The unions, who have decided to support the bandh, are Employees Union, Staff and Workers Federation, Telangana Jatiya Mazdoor Union, Staff and Workers Union, Karmika Parishad, Bahujan Workers Union. The TMU and TJMU would be protesting by wearing red badges and staging dharnas. The EU and SWF have decided to boycott the duties.

The TSRTC Joint Action Committee leader K Raji Reddy alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was amending the Acts to deprive the workers of their rights and terrorise the working class. He said that the recognised union TMU has declared to take part in strike by



wearing red badges. 

The Auto Unions in the city including school vans and transport vehicles have also decided to observe one day bandh on Tuesday. The Auto unions would also take up protest on January 9 in the city. The demands of the unions include withdrawal of Motor vehicle Amendment Act, setting up of Auto Drivers Welfare Board, curbing the exploitation by the private financiers, reduction of insurance fee by 50 per cent, removing corruption in RTA, putting an end to harassment by traffic police. 

The union leaders Md Amanullah Khan, A Sathi Reddy Telangana Auto and Motor Welfare Union general secretary M Dayanand said that the Centre was adopting anti-worker and anti-people policies. They said that the auto-rickshaw drivers would suffer if high penalties proposed in the M V Amendment Act are enforced. The Centre should withdraw the bill, they demanded.
