The Hyderabad bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) directed Chief Secretary of Telangana state A. Santhi Kumari to take steps to provide a provisional pension to senior IPS officer V.K. Singh within a week or appear in person before it on July 19.

The bench, comprising Sudhi Ranjan Misra and B. Anand, issued the orders over an application filed by V.K. Singh, a former director of the Telangana State Police Academy, who resigned in 2020 after he failed to make the cut in the race for the DGP post, given that he had 33 years of service under his belt.

However, upon retirement, he did not

get his provisional pension from the state government, following which he approached the tribunal.

Based on a previous application, CAT directed the state government to forthwith pay the provisional pension to him. But as the orders were not complied with, he again approached the tribunal.

The CAT opined that non-compliance with court orders would amount to contempt and directed the Chief Secretary to be present before it. However, on request of E. Kavitha, the government counsel, the CAT gave one week to the government to comply with the orders.
