Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government enhanced reservation in government jobs for the differently-abled from three to four per cent.

The quota enhancement is in consonance with the provisions of Section 34 (1) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 (Central Act).

A high-level committee has also been formed to take appropriate decision if persons with benchmark disabilities are not available to fill up the vacancies. The Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens’ department

secretary M Jagadeeshwar issued the orders on Thursday.

Officials said that the central government has included several more ‘differently-abled categories’ in the Act. “Though the Central Act of 2016 came into effect in 2017, it took time for the Telangana government to work out rules and regulations. Telangana is one of the first states to come out with an enhanced four per cent quota to the differentlyabed in tune with the Central Act,” disabled welfare joint secretary V Nirmala told.
