The State government on Sunday issued orders for implementation of 50 per cent relief in property tax to residential property owners across all Urban Local Bodies in the State including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for 2020-21. Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao had announced the government’s decision on Saturday as a Deepavali gift to the people of the State.

Over 30 lakh people in the State will benefit from the decision which is part of the State government’s several initiatives to alleviate people’s sufferings in the aftermath of the Covid-triggered lockdown and the subsequent economic downturn.

Residential property owners in GHMC have been given 50 per cent relief against annual property tax of upto Rs 15,000 for the 2020-2021 financial year. In the remaining 140 municipalities in the State, the 50 per cent property tax relief will be applicable to annual property tax of upto Rs 10,000. If the owners in these categories have already paid full tax, the 50 per cent relief will be adjusted in the next financial year. As per the government order, the property tax waived off for residential property owners will be reimbursed by the State government to



the ULBs.

Rama Rao, addressing the media on Saturday, said that about 13.72 lakh residential property owners in GHMC and another 17.68 lakh residential property owners in 140 municipalities will benefit from the decision. 

In all, the property tax rebate will benefit the property owners to an amount of Rs Rs 196.48 crore in GHMC area and another Rs 130 crore in the remaining municipalities, aggregating to Rs 326.48 crore, he said.

Rama Rao also announced a Deepavali gift to sanitation workers in recognition of their services during Covid-19 period. The State government, on Sunday, issued orders enhancing their monthly salary by Rs 3,000, from Rs 14,500 to Rs 17,500 for sanitary field assistants and other public health field assistants including entomology field assistants. 

This is the third enhancement for them since the formation of Telangana State – from Rs 8,500 to Rs 12,500 in 2015 and from Rs 12,500 to Rs 14,500 in 2017. Similarly, the monthly salaries have been enhanced for sanitary public health workers and other field-level staff from Rs 14,000 to Rs 17,000.
