The Election Commission of India is reportedly inclined to hold the Telangana State Assembly election with four other poll-bound States – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The Umesh Sinha Committee, which toured Telangana State for two days recently, submitted its report on poll preparedness to the Election Commission on Friday. The three-member Election Commission met and discussed the report for holding elections in Telangana State. The EC is reported to have expressed satisfaction over the Umesh Sinha panel report and felt that election in Telangana State could be clubbed with the other States since the report said that the atmosphere in the State
was conducive for polls as also the preparedness.
The EC plans to have a second round of ground-level assessment in the State before it formally announces its decision. The preparedness of the State is evident from the fact that all the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) and other pre-poll arrangements are in place in the State, besides revision of electoral rolls.
The final draft of electoral rolls would be released on October 8 as per schedule, and the notification for election could be anytime after the release of the final draft.
