The state government on Wednesday unveiled a massive programme under `Urban Mission Bhagiratha' to provide tap water to every household in 183 villages in 12 mandals and seven municipalities located beyond Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and within Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits.
Minister for municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) K Taraka Rama Rao laid the foundation stone for the water supply project at Kompally on the outskirts of the city . Later
addressing the gathering, the minister said as per the schedule the drinking water project would be completed in a year.“But I asked the
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials to look at the possibilities of provid ing water to these 183 villages by next summer.“
The government is spending `628 crore on the project which involves laying of 285 km of trunk mains and another 1,712 km of distribution mains. The water board is constructing 412 service reservoirs as part of the TRS government's pet project Mission Bhagiratha.
At present, the residents of these villages are getting seven million gallons of water a day and, once the project is completed, they will get up to 30 MGD of water a day , according to the minister.
