In the wake of heavy winds and rain that caused widespread power cuts and even voltage upsurge at a few locations in Hyderabad on Monday, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) has set up a control room to receive complaints pertaining to disruption in power supply.

The company also urged people to be on alert and look out for any fallen power lines or electric poles and keep themselves safe. Complaints can be lodged over phone numbers: 040- 23431178, 23431179, 2111-1111, 94910-56410.

TSSPDCL, Managing Director, Raghuma Reddy said that due to strong winds that lashed the Capital, many trees got uprooted and fell on the power lines, resulting in disruption of power supply.

Over 760 personnel and senior officials are patrolling in many areas and restoring power supply. He appealed

to the citizens not to touch any snapped power cables and immediately alert the department officials.

The impact of the windy conditions was such that several locations in the Capital also reported voltage upsurge. At Telecom Colony in Secunderabad, due to the voltage upsurge and fluctuation, household electronic appliances were damaged at several households.

A temporary shed at Mecca Masjid collapsed under the impact of the heavy wind but there were no loss of life in the incident.

Due to tree uprooting and snapped power lines, several major thoroughfares in Hyderabad reported massive gridlocks that lasted well into the night. Widespread reports of power cuts were also reported from parts of the twin cities, even as authorities struggled to restore normalcy.
