On September 4, T Srinivasa Rao, in-charge judge of the II Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, had delivered the verdict in the twin blasts case at Cherlapally Central Prison convicting Aneeq Shafique Sayeed, a 36-year-old computer centre owner from Bhagyodaya Nagar in Pune, and Md Akbar Ismail Chowdhari, 35, a
mobile phone repairer Meeta Nagar in Pune, for setting off blasts at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat Centre on August 25, 2007.
Two other accused, Farooq Sharfuddin Tarkash and Mohammed Sadiq Israr Shaik, were acquitted in the case. Three other accused, including Indian Mujahideen (IM) founder Riyaz Bhatkal, his brother Iqbal Bhatkal and Amir Reza Khan, are still at large. Investigators filed the first chargesheet on May 16, 2009. Subsequently, Counter Intelligence Cell sleuths had filed two more supplementary chargesheets.
