The Telangana State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday resolved to expel two Congress legislators – Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and A Sampath – from the House besides suspending 11 Congress members for the entire Budget session of the State Legislature.
The expulsion and suspension follows the unprecedented unruly behavior by the Congress members during Governor ESL Narasimhan’s joint address to the State Legislature on Monday. Venkat Reddy, in an act that has been condemned by all, hurled headphones targeting the Speaker’s podium, one of which hit Council Chairman K Swamy Goud on the right eye. He has since been admitted to the SD Eye Hospital where he is
being treated for damaged cornea.
As soon as the House assembled for the day’s proceedings on Tuesday, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao moved separate resolutions seeking the suspension and expulsion of Congress members, which was approved by voice vote.
Assembly Speaker T Madhusudhana Chary repeatedly appealed to the Congress members to vacate their seats following the passing of the resolutions.
In a similar move, five congress MLCs including Leader of Opposition Mohammad Ali Shabbir were also suspended for the entire budget session for unruly behaviour.
