Uber added more wheels to its services in Hyderabad with the launch of its bike taxi service, uberMOTO here on Monday. The new service, to work almost on the same lines as the app-based cab services of Uber, was announced in December last and went live here on Monday.
According to Uber, the passengers would receive driver and bike details just as they do for other Uber rides, as well as all ‘standard safety features before, during and after the ride including requisite insurance coverage which covers the riders, GPS tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share trip details with family and friends’.
Passengers would have to download the Uber app for iOS or Android and create an Uber account, while existing users have to update their app to see the new product. uberMOTO drivers will have one helmet for the rider, and all riders and drivers must

wear a helmet.
Officials said uberMOTO would be one of the most affordable transportation options in the city, with fares as low as Rs.25 for the first three kms and Rs.5 per km thereafter, rounded up to the nearest km. Time charges won’t be applicable on uberMOTO, they said. As of now, uberMOTO will be available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday in parts of Kondapur, Hitech City, Madhapur, Gachibowli. The coverage would be expanded across the city in the coming days, they said.
Driver partners of uberMOTO were taken through a training session on various road safety related topics by RTA officials before starting on their first trips.Uber already has inked a memorandum of understanding with Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited to help extend the reach of the metro using uberMOTO, by ensuring last mile connectivity through its bikes.
