Uber resumed its operations in Hyderabad after the government allowed cab services to resume. Riders in the city will be able to access UberGo, UberAuto, Uber Premier and Uber Intercity. Uber Intercity operations will be limited to travel with necessary authorisation within state and permissible zones only.
Ratul Ghosh, Head, Ridesharing East India, Uber, said, “We are looking forward to bringing back earning opportunities for the driver-partner community. The health and safety will continue to remain our priority, especially now, as we resume services.”
Uber has undertaken the distribution of safety supplies to drivers free of cost. The new in-app safety feature will notify drivers to replenish their safety supplies after they have completed a predetermined number of trips.
Riders and drivers will see a new additions in the app. Drivers will have to confirm
that safety measures are in place and they are wearing a mask. This will be done via a new Go Online Checklist. A similar checklist has been built for riders wherein, before every trip, they must confirm that they’ve taken precautions such as wearing a face mask and washing or sanitizing their hands.
Prior to accepting trips, drivers will have to take a selfie with a mask on and Uber’s new technology will verify this. Newer options for feedback have been added, including notifying if a rider or driver is not wearing a mask or face cover. Drivers and riders now have the option of cancelling trips if they don’t feel safe for reasons such as a user is not wearing a mask or face cover.
Only two riders will be allowed in the rear seat. Uber will also send safety tips and recommendations it compiled to all riders and drivers, Uber said in a release.
