Union Minister Nityanand Rai Urges New IPS Officers to Focus on Crime Prevention, Not Just Punishment

Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai yesterday asked the 76th RR Batch passing out IPS probationer officers to understand the new criminal laws and work towards preventing the crime instead of punishing criminals. Observing that cybercrime has emerged as a major challenge, the minister asked the IPS officer trainees to lead the endeavour to address the challenge with technical expertise. 

Addressing them after reviewing the passing out parade at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police academy near Hyderabad, he said Cyber forensic lab,



Police Technology Mission and other initiatives have been taken by the Union Home Ministry to strengthen the police system. Observing that terrorism and left-wing extremism have almost been eliminated, he asked the young IPS probationers to be firm against them to root out completely.

The Parade marked the culmination of basic course training for 207 officer trainees, including 188 IPS officers and 19 foreign officers from countries like Nepal, Bhutan and others, with a notable 58 lady officers among them.
