There was uncertainty on Thursday over the proposed protests announced by the United Muslim Action Committee (UMAC) and the Telangana-AP JAC against CAA-NPR-NRC owing to doubts about according police permission for both programmes, though a clear picture began to emerge by late evening.
Police authorities did not disclose anything about the status of the petitions. Even the organisers could not confirm that they have been accorded permission.
Later in the evening, a tweet of MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi confirmed that permission for the Charminar protest was rejected by the police, who advised that the programme be held at Khilwat ground. The proposal, Mr Owaisi said, was accepted by the MIM.
The UMAC, backed by
the AIMIM, had earlier announced a protest meeting and mushaira on January 25 at Charminar, but the venue has been changed. Now, the protest would will be held at Khilwat ground, while JAC has planned for 48 hours sit-in protest of women on January 27 to register the protest again-st the CAA-NPR-NRC.
Mr Owaisi tweeted the poets’ protest against CAA-NRC would begin on the night of January 25 and they would welcome Republic Day by hoisting the National Flag at 12 in the midnight.
For the protest mushaira, renowned Urdu and Hindi poets like Rahat Indori, Lata Haya, Sampat Saral, Manzar Bhopali and Shabeena Adeeb and young voices like Nabiya Khan, Aamir Aziz and Husain Haidry were being invited.
