United Muslim Forum (UMF), a body of religious figures from various sects, urged the government to protect sheep and `permissible animal' traders and transporters from vigilantes. In a meeting with Telangana deputy chief minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali at Khankhaah-e-Shuttaria in Dabeerpura, the UMF on Thursday reiterated that lakhs of people celebrate the festival. They demanded that the government take steps to ensure Bakrid is celebrated peacefully and lumpen elements be

kept at bay.

“The forum asked the government to keep vigil on false vigilantism and all forces which are seeking to disturb the peace and tranquillity of the state,“ MUF member Syed Ahmedul Hussaini Sayeedul Quadri told.

The deputy chief minister said that the government was committed to maintaining law and order in the state and that no anti-social activity will be tolerated.
