Protesting the attitude of Hyderabad Central University authorities on the death of Rohit Vemula, all Universities Bandh passed on peacefully across the nation. The students at all universities participated in the agitation on Wednesday. At several places, the students burnt vice-chancellor’s effigy. The Dalit teachers, federations and students unions extended their solidarity with the Bandh.
In Hyderabad JNTU, the bandh was peaceful. The students demanded that the government
suspend Vice-Chancellor P Apparao immediately. In Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, the students participated in the bandh and alleged that the Interim vice-chancellor’s appointment would lead to caste discrimination and religious politics. They demanded that the government enact a Rohit Act similar to Nirbhaya Act. They also asked the government to appoint a VC, who acts in favor of students and not to allow the political leaders into the campus premises.
Alleging that BJP’s saffranisation policy was the main reason for the death of Rohit, the AU students demanded that the government sack Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya and Smrithi Irani from their positions. They alleged that P Apparao and Vipin Srivastava are sons of BJP.
