The University of Hyderabad has been ranked in the range of 601-650 in the world by the QS World Rankings 2018 among 26,000 universities of the world, a first for the varsity to be included in the prestigious list.
Of the 12 Indian institutions and universities that have made it to the top 700, UoH is fifth on the list after IIT-Delhi at 172 rank, IISc at 190, University of Delhi (481-490) and Jadavpur University (601-650).
Anna University trails it by falling in the 651-700 range in the world rankings. University of Hyderabad, is thus one of the top 2 to 3 pc universities in the world.
Academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, international faculty and international students are the parameters on which the universities have been ranked by QS.
At 254, the Citations per Faculty indicator is the strongest for University of Hyderabad.
As per QS, 3,390 research papers have been published by the faculty during 2011-2016 and they have a total citation of
21,639. It has scored 48.1 against the average country score of 42.2 and at the global level it has a score of 57.2 to the global median of 32.6 in Citations per Faculty indicator.
“It is nice to see the University of Hyderabad performing well and making an entry in the QS World Rankings for the first time. This definitely puts more responsibility on the university to outclass its performance to reach better standards.
We hope to increase publications quality that will read and be cited world over to enable us to move to top 200 club by next year,” said Appa Rao Podile, vice-chancellor.
The VC added that efforts were being made to induct new faculty members. For the 155 teaching positions have been notified, the varsity has received more than 1,900 applications.
“Till date, 55 new faculty members have been appointed and the process is on to fill the remaining positions. The onus is on appointing quality faculty who can teach, conduct research and mentor students,” Appa Rao said.
