The State government will kick-start a special drive on June 3 to vaccinate all RTC drivers, auto-rickshaw drivers and cab drivers in the State. The vaccination process will take up to 10,000 persons per day in the GHMC area and other district headquarters. The decision comes in the wake of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s directions to the officials concerned to identify the high-risk groups and take up a special drive to vaccinate them.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar reviewed the vaccination procurement and administration process with senior officials at BRKR Bhavan on Monday. They discussed the availability of vaccines, the allotment of vaccine quota by the Centre, and other related issues. The Minister asked the officials concerned to pursue and make efforts to ensure that the Central government allocates more vaccine doses to Telangana



State.

The Minister also instructed the officials to procure necessary medical equipment, oxygen supply, and storage units to strengthen all the government hospitals across the State. The decision was taken as part of the preventive measures proposed in anticipation of the third wave of Covid in the country. The Health Department has been advised to remain on alert and take all measures to equip the hospitals to deal with any sudden spike in Covid cases and other diseases in future

Special Chief Secretary for Transport Sunil Sharma, Principal Secretary for IT and Industries Jayesh Ranjan, Health Secretary SAM Rizvi, Transport commissioner MRM Rao, Director of Medical Education Ramesh Reddy, Director of Public Health G Srinivasa Rao, OSD Gangadhar, Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor Karunakar Reddy and other officials also attended the meeting.
