Vanama Rao Approaches HC, Seeks 30-Day Suspension of Judgement

Disqualified Kothagudem MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao on Wednesday filed an interim application before the High Court seeking a direction to suspend the July 25 judgment, declaring his election as void and invalid.

Vanama Rao urged the court to suspend the order for 30 days, as he intends to file an appeal against the order of the High Court before the Supreme Court. He said that he was yet to receive the certified copy of the judgment dated 25-7-2023 so as to enable him to approach the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday Justice G. Radha Rani, declared the election of Vanama Venkateswara Rao, Kothagudem MLA, as void and invalid on the ground that he had suppressed



and concealed certain information.  

Further, the court declared Jalagam Venkata Rao, the petitioner in the election petition, who had polled the next highest votes, as the elected candidate from Kothagudem Assembly constituency.  

While arguing the interim application, T. Sharat, counsel for the petitioner, argued that the next general elections are scheduled to be held in December, and his client intends to contest the said elections. If the order copy is not furnished to him, it will be a serious prejudice.

The court reserved the orders and the decision will be pronounced soon.
