Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said empowering women would enable them to lead a life of dignity, respect and make informed decisions.There was enough evidence to show that women during the early Vedic period were treated equal to men in all walks of life, he said.
Speaking on the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Mahila Dakshata Samiti here on Friday, Naidu said the cultural moorings of India have gender equality as its core principle. “We are proud inheritors of a culture and a world view in which women are not only
treated equally but also revered,” he said.
He said India’s long, rich history was dotted with numerous achievements of extraordinary women such as Prabhavati, the daughter of Chandra Gupta II, Razia Sultana, the only woman monarch to rule Delhi, Durgavati, the Gond queen and Rajmata Jijabai, famous poetesses like Molla who wrote Ramayana in Telugu, Akka Mahadevi, Andal, Avvaiyar and others. Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mohd Mahmood Ali and others were present.
