Hyderabad: Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari will deliver the first Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah Memorial Lecture at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on April 13 at 12.30 PM.
Governor of Telangana and AP E.S.L. Narasimhan and Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali will be the guests of honour of the event which will be presided over by Dr Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor of MANUU.
According to Dr Parvaiz the lecture has been instituted in the name of Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah as he represented a high point in the syncretic culture of India, especially in the Deccan.
Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah who
founded Hyderabad and shifted his capital from Golconda to the newly built city is known for taking keen interest in the improving the condition of the people in his region. His reign is also known for cordial relations between people of different faiths.
He is the first poet in Deccani language whose collection of works (diwan) was published. He is also known to have written poetry in Telugu and bestowed honours on persons of letters.
“Since Maulana Azad National Urdu University is located in the city built by him it is appropriate to remember him to promote the idea of peaceful co-existence,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
