In Telangana, about 68.65 percent turnout was recorded in the bye-election to the Telangana Legislative Council from the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduates’ constituency yesterday and polling boxes have reached the strong room. The poll authorities informed that 68.65 per cent of the 4 lakh 63 thousand 839 graduate electors cast their votes when the polling came to an end at 4 p.m. yesterday. 

However, those standing in queues by that time were allowed to cast their votes. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere. The polling was held at 605 polling stations in 34 Assembly constituencies spread over 12 districts.

total of 52 candidates were in the fray for the bye-election but the main contest was among Ch Naven of the ruling Congress and Rakesh Reddy of the BRS and Remender Reddy of the BJP. The CPI, CPI-M and Telangana Jana Samithi supported the Congress candidate. The vacancy arose after sitting member Palla Rajeshwar Reddy of the BRS resigned following his election to the Assembly from the Jangaon constituency during last year’s elections.
 
The preferential voting on ballot papers was used in this bye-election. Counting of votes will begin on 5th of next month which is likely to continue for over two days.
