A new `Water ATM' was launched at the city's Nalgonda Crossroads, Malakpet, on Thursday to cater to the drinking water needs of locals.
This initiative, collectively designed by Safe Water Network, a global NGO and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), will allow residents of the area to purchase clean drinking water at subsidised rates all through the day .
Speaking about the initi Speaking about the initiative, Ravi Sewak, country director of Safe Water Network, said: “The main reason behind the launch of the ATM was to reduce
the usage of untreated groundwater and increase the availability of clean treated water to the masses.“The treated water is priced at `1per glass, `2 per litre, `5 for every 10 litres and `10 for every 20 litres.
While the initiative has started with one ATM, the group intends to set up 50 such facilities around the city, which is expected to cater to 1,50,000 people by the end of March 2018.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is the official supplier of raw water to these ATMs.
