Tanker rates in the city have now decreased. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Wednesday announced revised rates for domestic and commercial categories.
About a month ago, the water board had increased rates `200 for domestic category and `400 for non-domestic sector after Tanker Owners Association went on an indefinite strike stating hike in fuel prices and inability to pay salaries drivers were cutting into their profits.
After holding talks with the union, on August 10, the board announced increased rates could be collected from September 1 from domestic and commercial consumers. However, keeping in view criticism from consumers on increased rates, the water board rolled back the
move.
According to revised rates, the water board will collect `500 per supplying 5 KL tanker to domestic consumers and `1,000 from non-domestic consumers for 10 KL tanker. Similarly, `850 for supplying five KL tanker to commercial consumers, `1,700 for 10 KL tanker and `3,400 for 20 KL tanker will be collected.
“On the instructions of municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) minister K T Rama Rao, the water board has agreed to slash the rates to a certain extent, though such reduction is not in tune with the actual costs incurred,“ the official press release said. “The revised rates, which will come into effect from September 1, will not affect the common man,“ the press note said.
