Major irrigation projects on both Krishna and Godavari river basins in the State have been receiving massive inflows of flood water because of heavy rains in many districts of the State. The inflows are expected to increase further forcing the Water Resources Engineers to let the flood water down the stream by lifting crest gates.
According to the flood forecast of the Central Water Commission (CWC) on Tuesday, Lakshmi (Medigadda) barrage of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) on river Godavari which is having a water level of 98.6 metres against a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 100 metres is expected to receive 3,200 cumecs (cubic metres per second) of flood water by Wednesday from rains in the upper regions.
Similarly the Sripada Yellampally project is expected to receive flood of over 1600 cumecs, Srisailam to receive 7,500 cumecs and Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) is to receive 3500 cumecs by Wednesday.
The inflows into major projects continued to be massive particularly in the Krishna river basin. Srisailam was receiving an inflow
of 3, 58,936 cusecs, and discharging 3, 54,611 cusecs. The project is holding 215.66 tmc of water against a capacity of 215.8 tmc. At Nagarjuna Sagar the inflows were 2,30,980 cusecs and outflows were 1,89,332 cusecs. The quantum of water available in the reservoir was 310.85 tmc against its capacity of 312.05 tmc.
Pulichintala was receiving 3,17,758 cusecs and discharging 3,04,223 cusecs. Almatti in Karnataka was discharging 52,530 cusecs into Narayanpur and Narayanpur is discharging 91, 875 cusecs into Priyadarshini Jurala Project (PJP) in Telangana. The inflows at PJP were 1,87,000 cusecs and outflows were 2,10,509 cusecs.
On Godavari, SRSP was receiving 1,36,443 cusecs and releasing the same quantity down the stream. The reservoir is full with 90.31 tmc of water. Yellampalli is receiving heavy inflows of 1,30,541 cusecs and discharging 2,03,860 cusecs. At Kaddem the inflows were 2,080 cusecs and the outflow was only 336 cusecs. At Lower Manair the inflows were 26,665 cusecs and outflows were 46,966 cusecs.
