The winter session of the Telangana State Legislature is beginning today. The Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will meet at 10 AM. The sessions are likely to be held for a record 50 days as decided at the Business Advisory Committee meeting held yesterday. However, the BAC will be meeting again today to decide the exact agenda.
The opposition parties are gearing up to raise public issues to corner the Telangana Government, Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao in a primitive measure, proposed the session be held for 50 days and if needed can be extended for more number of days.
The opposition proposed public issues like problems being faced by farmers, lack of support price, atrocities on Dalits and so on to be taken up for discussion during the session. However,
the main opposition Congress has called for Chalo Assembly agitation on the first day today protesting against the government’s alleged callus attitude towards farmers.
It has been alleging that farmers are not ensured support prices for paddy and cotton crops. In the wake of the opposition call for protest, security has been beefed up in and around the Assembly premises. Meanwhile, TDP floor leader Revanth Reddy moving close with opposition and Congress leaders’ open remarks welcoming him gave scope for speculation about his shifting loyalties.
On the other hand, the BJP and TDP decided to work together during the session. On the whole, all parties braced up for heated debates during the 50 day long marathon session of Telangana Legislature.
