A woman from Hyderabad was photographed donning a strange replacements for helmet: a plastic cover.
On Wednesday, Cyberabad Traffic Police took to Twitter to share a photo in which a woman pillion rider was seen donning a plastic cover over her head.
“The helmet should cover the full head, but the cover should not be used as a helmet. Wear a helmet. Be safe,” the tweet read.
The tweet has gone viral with many saying that the person was least concerned about safety.
To reduce
injuries and fatalities on the city roads, Hyderabad Traffic Police are strictly enforcing the helmet rule for two-wheeler riders. It applies not only to the driver but also to the pillion riders. If not, a challan will be issued to two-wheeler owners.
The rationale behind strictly enforcing this is that pillion riders too die in case of accidents, and the enforcement of the rule will help in saving lives. According to the MV Act 1989, a penalty for riding without a helmet is Rs 100. Now, if the pillion rider is helmetless then an e-challan will be issued for the same amount.
