A day after a man died after being hit by an auto-rickshaw in the Old City resulting in an outcry and a police crackdown on autos, another video highlighting an instance of allegedly reckless driving by an auto driver, dragging a woman for quite some distance is making the rounds on social media and television channels.
The police are yet to zero in on where the incident happened, though there are reports that it happened in Attapur of Rajendranagar. The video shows a woman, clad in a salwar-kurta, trying to stop an auto-rickshaw in which another woman and a child are seated. It is not clear what happened but the woman on the road tries to stop the auto-rickshaw, as the driver unmindful of her, vrooms away.
The woman’s clothes appear to get stuck in the auto-rickshaw
resulting in her being dragged for around 100 meters. Two men, reportedly the woman’s relatives, are seen running after the vehicle, trying to rescue her and to stop the vehicle. The woman later falls on the road, with another video showing her being escorted away. Whether her clothes were stuck in the vehicle, or whether she had hung onto the vehicle is not known.
The police said they had not received any complaint in connection with the incident so far, with the video circulated on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook alerting them on the issue.
“We are trying to figure out the place. We are also checking closed circuit cameras in suspected areas to know what happened. Action will be taken based on the outcome,” an official of Rajendranagar police station said.
