A woman died by suicide allegedly due to the harassment by a family over financial issues. According to the police, Pulavathi Deepti, (28) a resident of Saraswathi Nagar in Nacharam lived with her family. She recently completed her PhD and joined a government managed research institute at Tarnaka where she is working as a project assistant.

A few days ago, on a complaint made by a woman Anita, the Nacharam police had registered a case against Deepti’s father Sangeet Rao. Anita alleged that she paid Rs 35 lakh to Sangeet, as he assured to arrange a job for her relative in a government research



institute.

“Since a few days, Sangeet Rao was absconding. The family of Anita was visiting the house of Sangeet Rao and quarrelling with his family demanding that they return the money. Deepti slipped into depression over the developments and ended her life by hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Nacharam Inspector, G Rudhvir Kumar.

The police registered a case against Anita, her husband Anil and others under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of BNS and are investigating. The Inspector denied the allegations that the police harassed Deepti seeking information about her father.
