The city police on Thursday took YS Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, into preventive custody when she attempted to walk to her residence from Indira Park where she took part in a deeksha in support of unemployed youth.
Since permission was granted to observe deeksha for only one day, the police asked her to conclude it. She then decided to return home in Jubilee Hills by walking with her followers. When she reached Telugu Talli flyover, the police took her into
custody and dropped her at her residence in their vehicle.
Protesting against the alleged high-handedness of the police, Sharmila staged a protest at her house. She took part in deeksha in support of unemployed youth as announced during the recent public meeting in Khammam district that she would observe deeksha at Indira Park.
It is learnt that Sharmila is also considering taking up a padayatra in Telangana in the second week of July.
