Man tries to immolate self in Makkah Grand Mosque

Jeddah: The incident of a man trying to immolate self near Kaaba inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia has evoked outrage as the video clip went viral on social media.

The incident occurred on Monday during Tawaf (circumambulation) around Kaaba. However, the man was arrested before he could act on it, the police said. According to Police, the



man in his 40s, is “mentally unwell”.

An official statement released by the Presidency of Two Holy Mosque Affairs in Makkah said “A person who was dousing himself with gasoline, on Monday night, was arrested by security forces”.

The statement also urged people not to believe in rumours about the incident.
