In New York, at least 12 people were killed and four critically injured when a fire tore through an apartment building in Bronx late last night. Officials said the cause of the blaze was not immediately clear, but it began on the first floor and spread rapidly to the third floor. They said, four other people were critically injured and fighting for their
lives.
Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters at the scene after the blaze was extinguished that there could be more casualties.
The fire-alarm fire broke out in the building in the city's northernmost borough at around 7:00 pm on a bitterly cold night, with temperatures well below freezing.
