16 dead in stampede at Madagascar independence day celebrations

In Madagascar, at least 16 people were crushed to death and dozens injured in a stampede at a stadium hosting national independence day celebrations in the capital Antananarivo.

According to witnesses, the accident occurred last night outside the Mahamasina stadium, where several thousand people had



gathered for a concert following the traditional military parade held to mark the national holiday. 

The Mahamasina Stadium, with 22,000 capacity, is located in the center of Antananarivo and serves as a venue for various sport and cultural events.
