At least 18 people died and dozens were feared trapped in rubble after a strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck off Aceh province on Indonesian's Sumatra early this morning. Officials said, seven children were among the dead.
The local disaster management agency said, rescue efforts
were under way to save those trapped beneath collapsed buildings. The US Geological Survey said, the shallow quake hit 10 kilometres north of Reuleuet at 5:03 AM local time. However, seismologists said, there was no tsunami alert. Aceh was devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
