Two passengers died while five were left injured when the tyre of the van in which they were travelling exploded and hit the barrier on Dubai's Sheikh Rashid Road on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the Dubai Police, a woman and a man were among the casualties, while the other five received moderate injuries - including four women.
The van, carrying seven people, crashed on Sheikh Rashid Road before the Garhoud tunnel.
Brigadier Ali Ahmad
Abdulla Ghanim, director of Al Muraqabat Police Station, said they received information about the accident around 9:42am. The van veered off the road after one of its tyres exploded, and crashed into a road barrier and hit a lamp post.
The injured were shifted to Rashid Hospital, Brigadier Ghanim added.
Brigadier Ghanim urged all motorists to follow traffic rules and routinely maintain their cars, especially checking the tyres as ill-maintained ones could lead to serious accidents.
