A senior Pentagon official has said that the 22 dialogue between India and United States in New Delhi next week is an opportunity to advance the Indo-US relationship in a significant way.
US Assistant Secretary of Defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, Randall G Schriver said in Washington the leaders will talk about regional issues and strategic issues, but they are also going to have a set of actual concrete outcomes.
Describing this as a
historic meeting, the Pentagon official said the leaders will talks about Afghanistan or shared interest there and driving that to a political settlement. In the defence sector, he said the two countries are working on a set of enabling agreements.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Jim Mattis are travelling to India next week for the 22 dialogue being hosted by their Indian counterparts Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman.
