In Syria, at least 20 people were killed and several others injured in a car bomb attack in northern province of Aleppo. The blast hit an opposition checkpoint run by a rebel group near the town of Azaz, close to the border with Turkey. According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the death toll is likely to rise because of the number of people with serious wounds.
The Islamic State group has
regularly targeted rebel factions with bomb attacks. More than 300,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests in March 2011.
