A vendor has been charged with molesting a female shopper while trying clothes in his shop.
According to court documents, the 22-year-old Pakistani man groped the Arab woman as she was trying on an abaya (a traditional dress) in his Naif Souq shop on March 6.
He denied the charge, claiming he had unintentionally touched her.
"We arrested the vendor around 11 am after receiving a complaint that he violated a woman's modesty in a public place," a police sergeant
said.
"I went with my patrol colleague to the shop and talked to the complainant. She said that the salesman had touched her. We called for the man and questioned him and he confessed he touched her as she was trying the abaya. We took him into custody and also asked the shopper to go to the Naif police station to file a complaint."
During public prosecution investigation, the salesman admitted to the charge. CCTV footage from inside the shop was enclosed with the case file. The defendant has been detained. The trial has been adjourned to April 29.
