In Sri Lanka, at least 23 people have died and over 75 thousand have been evacuated during heavy monsoon rains over the past week. The country's Disaster Management Centre said 13 people are also missing, while the displaced have been put up in 339 camps and shelters.
It said at least 166,228 people have been affected by heavy rainfall and strong winds that have lashed 20 districts, especially
in country’s south.
The Centre said 118 houses have been destroyed while another 5,073 houses and 24 buildings have been damaged. More than a thousand members of the armed forces have been deployed in rescue operations across the country. However, weather is predicted to improve from today onwards bringing relief to the people.
