In Mali, 37 civilians were killed and many were injured when armed men believed to be traditional Dogon hunters attacked a village of Fulani herders yesterday. The violence was fuelled by dispute over access to land and water. The government said that the attackers, who were dressed as tradition Dogon hunters raided the Koulogon village in the Mopti region of the
country.
Violence between Fulani, one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa and rival communities has worsened the security situation in Mali's desert regions, which are used as a base by the jihadist groups.
The United Nations recorded over 500 deaths in the region last year.
