In Haiti, at least 40 migrants lost their lives and several others were injured after a boat they were traveling on caught fire off northern part of the country.

The boat, which was carrying over 80 people, left the northern coast of Haiti on Wednesday en route for the Turks and Caicos Islands 150 miles away.

Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-Genral Antonio Guterres said that Forty-one migrants were rescued by the Haitian Coast Guard and are



currently receiving medical care, food, water, and psychosocial support provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in support of the national authorities.

According to the IOM, more than 86,000 migrants have been forcibly returned to Haiti by neighbouring countries this year. Haiti, is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea, east of Cuba and Jamaica, and south of The Bahamas.
