In Turkey, at least five people were killed and 22 others injured in an attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS headquarters near Ankara yesterday. Security forces neutralised two terrorists during the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler suggested that the militant Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, may be involved. The PKK is classified as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the European Union, and
the United States.
The attack occurred while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in Kazan, Russia, attending the annual BRICS summit. He condemned the attack alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin, who offered his condolences.
In retaliation, Turkey’s air force targeted Kurdish militant positions in Iraq and Syria, claiming to have destroyed more than 30 targets in the aerial offensive.
