6.0 magnitude quake hits Indonesia

In Indonesia, an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale occurred early morning today near the south-western coast of the Java island.A source in the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics, BMKG, told. The earthquake occurred some 271 kilometers to the southwest of Lebak Regency of Banten province with the epicenter located just 10



kilometers below the surface of the Indian ocean. 

No information on casualties or damage from the quake has been provided yet. No tsunami warning was also issued following the quake.A 5.9-magnitude earthquake near Java in 2006 claimed the lives of 6,500 people, with up to 80 percent of the buildings in the town of Bantul being destroyed.
