Sri Lankan courts have ordered the release of 73 Tamil Nadu fishermen, arrested in recent months for allegedly violating the International Maritime Boundary. They are among 77 fishermen detained by the Island nation. The remaining four are likely to be released today and their repatriation will take later this week. The formalities to set
free the fishermen from prisons will be completed in a couple of days.
The release comes following interventions by the Indian High Commission in Colombo. These fishermen were taken into custody along with their 102 fishing boats. However, Sri Lanka has not been releasing the boats despite the release of the fishermen.
