Tunisia, along with neighbouring Libya, has become a primary departure point for refugees and migrants from across Africa seeking better lives in Europe. Many undertake the perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea, often in overcrowded and unseaworthy boats, despite the risks. The Mediterranean remains one of the deadliest migration routes in the world.
