Afghan deputy governor abducted in Pakistan

Unidentified gunmen abducted the deputy governor of Afghanistan’s Kunar province in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, governor’s spokesperson Abdul Ghani Musamem and the local police confirmed  on Saturday. Muhammad Nabi Ahmadi was in Peshawar for medical treatment.

The incident took place on Friday as he was walking down a road when a car with tinted windows pulled up and overpowered him, Reuters quoted the Peshawar Police as saying.

Peshawar on Thursday and had an appointment with a doctor in Dabgari, the Afghan Consul General in Peshawar Moeen Mrastyal told The Express Tribune . “We still haven’t heard anything about him,” he added.

The motive behind the abduction is not yet clear. A security official told Reuters that the police were trying to find out if it was related to Ahmadi’s work or a personal dispute.

The Afghan Taliban denied involvement in the kidnapping.
