In Afghanistan six people were killed including students in a series of explosions targeting educational institutions in the capital Kabul yesterday. According to the Police and city's Emergency Hospital, more casualties are feared in the blasts which occurred in rapid succession in a mostly Shiite neighborhood of Kabul.
Several of the wounded were in critical condition.
The explosions occurred inside the Abdul Rahim Shaheed High School and near the Mumtaz Education Center several kilometers away, in the neighborhood of Dasht-e-Barchi in the west of Kabul.
Witnesses said, it appeared a suicide bomber blew
himself up inside the sprawling compound, which can house up to 1,000 students. It wasn't immediately clear how many children were in the school at the time of the explosion.
No one has immediately claimed responsibility.
The UN human rights body has condemned the attacks and called for an investigation into the incident.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR said in a tweet that attacks on schools and children are despicable. It said, they must be investigated and those responsible must be held to account in line with international norms and standards.
