Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced yesterday that country's borders will reopen to fully vaccinated tourists from February 21st. The announcement marks the end of one of the world’s strictest and longest-running travel restrictions imposed since the onset of the pandemic.
After a meeting of the national security cabinet, Mr Morrison said, it's
almost two years since they took the decision to close the borders to Australia. Australia shut down its borders in March 2020 after the pandemic hit and allowed only a handful of exemptions. For most of the time since then, Australians have been barred from leaving and only a handful of visitors have been granted exemptions to enter.
