In Bangladesh, BNP chief Khaleda Zia surrendered before a Dhaka court today in an about 1.8 billion dollar graft case involving a gas exploration and extraction deal awarded to Canadian firm Niko during her premiership between 2001-2006. The court than granting her bail and fixed December 28 for framing charges against the 3-time former premier. The High Court in June had rejected her petition challenging the legality of the proceedings of the case and



ordered her to surrender before the trail court within 2 months.

The High Court had also directed the trial court to consider her bail petition. The case was filed by the Anti-corruption commission in 2007 alleging abuse of power by the former premier and causing huge loss to the exchequer.
