Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said that China has deployed its largest navy fleet in regional waters in nearly three decades. The Defense Ministry reported that 47 aircraft and 12 warships were detected in the previous 24 hours. It added that this was the largest number of aircraft spotted near the island in a single day in the last two months, during which there has been an escalation in Chinese war games near the island.
The
Ministry said that the Chinese naval deployment was close to the so-called first island chain, which links Okinawa, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Local media reported that the deployment surpasses the scale of the military drills conducted in 2022, when former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island. It said, the deployment marks a significant escalation in tensions between China and Taiwan.
